We applied 3 coats of clear urethane to the inside of the topsides of the Palm Beach 22 with the roll and tip method. After sanding it flat, I decided it was finally worth it to upgrade my shop with a spray booth. Once you think about the difficulty of all those different surfaces, it’s easy to convince yourself of the efficiency of spraying finishes.

The finish schedule for the inside of the hull is 10 coats of clear urethane on the topsides. Then I’ll mask that area off and apply 4-5 coats of Interprotect 2000E primer, sand it flat, and apply at least 3 coats of Awlgrip white to the inside of the bilge.
This is the only opportunity to protect the inside of the boat with coatings. As you probably know, the harsh sunlight in South Carolina degrades clear finishes so quickly that maintenance coats are required annually for the outside of the boat. But it won’t be practical to add finish coats to the inside once all the engine, wiring, batteries, etc. are installed.
