Applying Nonskid for the Palm Beach 22

Engine compartment sole pieces taped off, ready to apply paint.

I’ve been in painting mode for the past week.  Now it’s time to apply nonskid to the engine compartment sole pieces.  You can see me making the patterns for these pieces in this post from a while ago.

Sole piece with nonskid powder sprinkled on.

Nonskid looks and feels like sand that’s just stuck to the deck or sole.  It’s actually micro pellets of plastic that you can get from your paint supplier.  It’s nice that it’s plastic instead of sand because if you ever decide to remove it or re-do it, the plastic sands off pretty easily.

In the lower area, I’ve removed the tape and vacuumed the excess powder.

Applying nonskid is about as straightforward as it gets.  You tape off the area you where you want to apply it.  Roll or spray on a coat of paint.  Let it cure enough to become tacky.  Sprinkle the nonskid powder on the wet paint.  Wait for the paint to cure.  Vacuum up the excess.  Then seal the nonskid with about 3 coats of paint.

Ready for a few sealing coats of paint.

And voila!
